They Did Not Tell You the Calling Has a Price Tag

God places a calling on your life and for a moment it feels like possibility and momentum and everything aligning. And then the calling starts to reveal what it requires and the price tag is higher than the initial excitement prepared you for.

Time. Relationships. Comfort. Reputation. Money. Sleep. The version of your life you had planned before the calling arrived. The calling asks for pieces of all of it and sometimes large pieces of some of it and the cost is real and the payment is often required before the return is visible.

Nobody tells you this clearly enough. So when the bill comes it feels like something went wrong. It did not. This is what a calling costs. All of them. Every significant one in scripture and in life.

Every Calling in Scripture Had a Price

Moses gave up the comfort of the only life he had known in Egypt. Paul gave up his standing, his safety, and eventually his life. Peter gave up his fishing business. Esther risked her life to step into the assignment she was born for. Mary said yes to a calling that she understood would cost her reputation before she understood what it would produce.

None of them were given a discount on the calling because of the cost. The cost was part of the assignment. The willingness to pay it was part of what made them the right person for it.

The Calling Is Bigger Than the Comfort It Costs

The person who is ten years into walking in their calling will tell you that what it cost in the beginning does not compare to what it produced. Not because the cost was not real. It was. But because the calling, fully walked in, produces something that the comfort it replaced never could have.

The comfort you give up for the calling is finite. What the calling produces can outlast you.

Count the cost. Pay it. Walk in it anyway. The calling is bigger than what it takes to get there.
