Things They Don't Tell You When You Follow God Closely — You Will Be Misunderstood by Good People

This is post 16 in Things They Don't Tell You When You Follow God Closely, a weekly Sunday series from Alpha VI Battalion.

They Did Not Tell You the Misunderstanding Would Come From the Good Ones

You expected resistance from people who do not share your faith. That makes sense and it arrives on schedule. But nobody warned you that some of the deepest misunderstanding would come from people who love you, who are trying to help you, and who genuinely cannot understand what you are doing or why.

Your family who worries you are being extreme. Your friends who think you have changed and are not sure the change is healthy. Your colleagues who see the decisions your faith is producing and cannot find a logical framework for them. Good people. People with good intentions. People who care about you.

They are not the enemy. They are limited by the same thing everyone is limited by who does not share your vantage point. They cannot see what you see.

Jesus Was Misunderstood by His Own Family

Mark 3 records that when Jesus was operating in His calling, His own family went to bring Him home because they thought He had lost His mind. His family. The people who knew Him longest and loved Him most. They looked at what He was doing and their loving conclusion was that something had gone wrong with Him.

If the people who knew Jesus intimately misunderstood what God was doing through Him, the people who love you will sometimes misunderstand what God is doing through you. This is not an indictment of them. It is the nature of operating on a level of clarity that not everyone around you has access to yet.

You Do Not Have to Convince Everyone

The misunderstanding is uncomfortable. The instinct is to explain yourself until the people you love understand what you understand. Sometimes that conversation is valuable and worth having. But sometimes the explanation is not available yet because the understanding requires seeing the outcome, not hearing the logic.

Abraham could not fully explain to anyone why he was leaving Ur. He did not have enough information yet. The explanation came with the fulfillment. Sometimes that is the order of things.

Hold the vision. Walk in the assignment. Let the outcome speak for what the explanation could not carry.

Stay in it, Light Bringer.
