Things They Don't Tell You When You Follow God Closely — Rest Is an Act of Faith Not Laziness

This is post 15 in Things They Don't Tell You When You Follow God Closely, a weekly Sunday series from Alpha VI Battalion.
They Did Not Tell You That Rest Takes Faith
The hustle culture version of the Christian life treats rest as a reward for sufficient productivity. You rest when you have done enough. You stop when everything is handled. You take the Sabbath when the week is under control.
The problem is that the week is never fully under control. There is always more to do. And the person who rests only when everything is handled never rests at all.
God built the Sabbath into the design of creation before sin entered the picture. It was not a concession to human weakness. It was a rhythm He modeled and commanded. The Creator of the universe rested on the seventh day not because He was tired but because rest is part of the design, not a departure from it.
Rest Declares That You Are Not the One Holding It Together
The reason rest is an act of faith is that it is a declaration. When you stop, you are declaring that the thing you stopped working on is in God's hands, not yours. That the outcome does not depend on whether you keep going. That He is sovereign over what you are not currently managing.
That is a harder declaration than it sounds. The veteran who ran on three hours of sleep for months knows what it feels like to believe that stopping means something falls apart. The entrepreneur who has not taken a day off since launch knows that the fear is real. But the anxiety that says you cannot stop is not faith. It is a functional belief that you are the one holding it together. And you are not.
Be Still and Know
Psalm 46:10 is often quoted as encouragement to slow down. It is also a command with a theological implication. Be still and know that I am God. The knowing comes from the stillness. The stillness is required for the knowing.
You cannot hear clearly in constant noise. You cannot receive direction when you never stop moving long enough to receive anything. Rest is not the interruption of the work. It is the environment where the most important work happens.
Stop. Rest. Let God be God over what you are not currently touching. That is not laziness. That is faith.
Stay in it, Light Bringer.
